Description
In 2016, the City of Kingsport, Tennessee installed a beautiful new, decorative street clock in its downtown area on Broad Street. The ornate, 16-foot-tall clock is pictured here in the roundabout at the corner of Broad and New Streets near the Kingsport Public Library, which is pictured at left.
Originally inhabited by Cherokee Indians, Kingsport was first chartered in 1822 and became a major shipping port on the South Fork of the Holston River. The town was named after William King who had constructed a boat yard along the river. The City of Kingsport was re-chartered in 1917, and is one of the major industrial towns in Northeast Tennessee.
