Description
The old Landrum Covered Bridge, properly known as Campbell’s Covered Bridge, was built in 1909 by Charles Willis Irwin in Landrum, South Carolina. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, and it is the last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina. Signage in the area says the bridge was named for Lafayette Campbell who owned the land at the time of its construction. Beautifully painted red, the bridge is well taken care of since it is the only remaining covered bridge in the state of South Carolina.
The Old Campbell’s Covered Bridge in Landrum holds stories as old as the trees that shelter it. Built in the 1900s near Gowensville in Greenville County, this bridge has seen generations pass through its wooden corridors, their laughter echoing off its sturdy walls. It has stood tall through storms and sunshine, a silent witness to the changing tides of time. Each creak and groan tells a tale of travelers crossing over, of families forging bonds, and of a community's resilience.
