Description
Located in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain opened in 2016, recreating the aura of an authentic 1930s-era neighborhood pharmacy and soda fountain. The pharmacy is housed in one of the town’s older structures that was built in 1899, replacing the original building that burned in “The Million-Dollar Fire” of 1897. In his book entitled Standard History of Knoxville, Tennessee published in 1900, William Rule, editor and founder of the Knoxville Journal, wrote, “The finest building of the whole is the Phoenix... The highest building on Gay Street and, in fact, in the City of Knoxville.” Today, Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain is a full-fledged old-time pharmacy offering prescriptions, sundries, ice cream and soda. Be sure to stop by and grab an ice cream soda if you’re in the area!
