Description
In my revisit to Coffee Bluff, I noticed the boat lift. Had not noticed it before... How could I have missed it! The lift and pilings seemed obtrusive and in the way of getting a good shot of the sunset over the marina. I looked around, and saw an old seaman, weathered with time, standing nearby, looking out over the bay. He seemed lost in thought, and I almost hated to interrupt his intent. Curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn’t resist asking him about the boat lift. When was it built and how was it used? Instead of directly answering my question, he began to tell me about a lifetime of navigating the waters, out into the ocean for thousands of miles, for days on end. I saw the lines in his face, and they only served to add to his story. There was a warmth and love for the ocean that emanated from his weary frame, and yet his face lit up when he told the stories. I loved hearing them, and I was so grateful for the opportunity to have met this old man, so full of wisdom. As his stories wound down, we both turned and noticed the warm glow of the sunset over the bay. I snapped this picture of the sunset through the boat lift as a gentle reminder of something that is as equally important as a beautiful sunset... The lifelong dreams and ambitions of an old mariner whose beautiful stories live on. Thanks, Savannah. Glad for my mariner and the boat lift!
