This beautiful, great blue heron had his back to me, watching for prey out over the water... With his head turned sideways, he seemed to be sending me a signal that said, “I can still see you”... Smiles. Actually, the vision of a great blue heron is excellent in daytime or nighttime, and a heron’s vision is about three times as detailed as ours. I so enjoyed watching him on this peaceful afternoon in winter. This photograph was taken at Warriors Path State Park in Northeast Tennessee. I digitally enhanced the original photograph to add texture and brush strokes that would emulate an Old World oil on canvas.
