This view of historic Boones Creek in Northeast Tennessee was taken on a beautiful Spring day. Located in Washington County, Boones Creek was named after Daniel Boone, a long-hunter and explorer who was in the area circa 1760. Legend states that Daniel Boone hid under the falls of the creek in his efforts to hide from the Indians. In a nearby beech tree, Boone reportedly also carved “D. Boon Cilled A Bar on the Tree in year 1760”. The community of Boone’s Creek was named after Daniel Boone, and today, the Boones Creek area is a thriving community with a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial development just outside Johnson City, Tennessee.
