The Meyer Bridge is the iconic red bridge in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Durham, North Carolina. The bridge was named in memory of the late J. Horst Meyer, a Duke physics professor and beloved friend of Duke Gardens. The bridge is located over the large pond in the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum and is a favorite spot for visitors to pause for photos. The Japanese-style arched bridge is a complement to the 55-acre public garden on the campus of Duke University.
The Sarah P. Duke Gardens are named after Sarah Pearson Duke, the wife of a prominent university benefactor, Benjamin N. Duke. The initial development of the gardens began in the 1930s, with the establishment of the terraced Doris Duke Center Gardens. Today, Sarah P.
