Description
Sleigh riding was a favorite pastime when we were growing up. This scene reminds me of those days in the country, a time when the winters seemed colder and the snows seemed deeper. I recall several snows that were about 3 feet deep in Northeast Tennessee, and the schools were often closed for two to three weeks at a time. During those snows, we loved to go sleigh riding at night. We would sometimes walk a mile just to get to our favorite hill, where we’d build a fire in an old barrel or in a firepit surrounded by natural rock. And we’d sleigh ride way past midnight. Mother never had to worry, as she knew we were safe and enjoying some of the best times of our lives. Such great memories with a wonderful wave of nostalgia that brings back lots of smiles!
