Description
In this makeshift corner of the old Mast Country Store, I saw a beautiful reminder of “yesterday”, of growing up in the ‘50s and ‘60s. The old coal bucket, though empty, brought back vivid memories of how we heated our house back in the day, and wood was used to “get the fire going”. The old wash tubs were used for everything, depending on size. This scene was found in the old Mast Country Store at Valle Crucis, North Carolina, a fine example of the old country stores that dotted the South throughout our youth. Now listed on the Historic Register of National Sites, the store brings back sweet memories and a wave of nostalgia from days gone by.
