Artist's Description
This panoramic scene of Watauga Lake in Northeast Tennessee is a lovely view located near the former site of the historic little town of Old Butler in Northeast Tennessee. Dating back to 1768, the town of Old Butler now lies at the bottom of Watauga Lake. The Elizabethton Flood of 1940 had left six people dead after the Watauga River washed away a large portion of the railway and caused extensive damage to the town. This prompted the Tennessee Valley Authority to relocate the residents of Old Butler, build Watauga Dam and flood the town with the new lake in 1948 to control flooding and prevent future loss of lives. The underwater ghost town of Old Butler lives on in the hearts and minds of many local residents. Today, Watauga Lake is a beautiful recreational area boasting 110 miles of shoreline, and offering water sports such as skiing, sailboats, pontoon boats, camping and fishing.

Interesting landscape with those trees popping out of the lake. We get this sometimes in our drought-stricken areas as trees grow where water has receded, then an atmospheric river comes and it looks like this. Beautiful sky above!
