Fun, artsy version of the Lovework sign at Abingdon, Virginia...
Amidst the gentle charm of Abingdon, Virginia, I stumbled upon a moment frozen in time – the iconic LOVEwork sign nestled in the quaint little park near the Martha Washington Inn, just across the street from Barter Theatre.. The vibrant colors and rustic backdrop captured my heart, echoing the warmth of this tight-knit community. This image speaks to those who cherish simple joys, appreciate small-town allure, and seek to surround themselves with love. Hang it in your space, and let the essence of Abingdon's love embrace your heart daily. A reminder that love, like this scene, is timeless, inviting anyone who craves a touch of love and nostalgia to make it a part of their home.
Located in Southwest Virginia, Abingdon celebrates its unique history as an Appalachian frontier town with its LOVEwork inspired by the legendary Daniel Boone. As Boone surveyed the land in the 1760s, legend holds that as he was camping, a pack of wolves emerged from a nearby cave and attacked his hunting dogs before being driven away. Boone nicknamed the area “Wolf Hills.” The Abingdon LOVEwork is 7 feet high and 15 feet wide, featuring a howling wolf. The LOVEwork is accompanied by a fountain with a sculpture designed by artist Charles Vess, which is inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The community of Abingdon, Virginia began as a land grant to Dr. Thomas Walker in 1752. The Town of Abingdon was established by an act of the Assembly of Virginia in 1778, and it became the county seat of Washington County. Two years later, the town played a role in helping the nation gain its independence as patriots from Virginia and North Carolina gathered at its Muster Grounds to march to Kings Mountain, South Carolina. Today, Abingdon is a beautiful resort town with many attractions including the Martha Washington Inn and Barter Theatre, along with its electric shops, bistros and fine dining establishments.
There are currently over 300 LOVEwork signs throughout the beautiful State of Virginia. The LOVEworks program is a state-wide branding initiative designed to promote travel across Virginia and to promote awareness of the state slogan, “Virginia is for Lovers”. From the coast to the mountains and every small town or bustling city in between, you’re bound to find something to love in Virginia.
This charming print has a fun, textured overlay to showcase the artsy side of the beautiful Lovework sign.
