“Sunset in the Harbor” is a scene I captured at Shem Creek near Charleston, South Carolina. We all love those peaceful moments when the sunset leaves a stunning pink glow and reflection over the waterfront, and this was surely one of those moments. The beautiful shrimpboats had docked in the harbor after a long day’s work. The water was tranquil and serene.
Shem Creek is a tidal creek located in the town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It is known for its picturesque views and seafood restaurants, and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike in the Charleston area. One of the iconic sights at Shem Creek are the shrimpboats that are moored along the docks. These boats are used by local shrimpers to catch shrimp in the surrounding waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Charleston Harbor. The shrimp catch is then sold to local restaurants or shipped to other locations for distribution. The shrimpboats at Shem Creek are a symbol of the town's rich maritime history and the importance of the shrimping industry to the local economy. Visitors can often watch the boats come and go from the creek while enjoying a meal or a drink at one of the nearby restaurants.
