Description
Peaceful and picturesque... These sweet little cascades on the Reedy River in South Carolina are the perfect spot to relax. Seems like each drop of water is telling a story of the river’s journey through time. As I took this long exposure in the coolness of the deep shade, I could hear only the rush of softly falling water. It was an awesome place to pause, reflect and find solace in the simple joys of life.
A tributary of the Saluda River, the Reedy River, located primarily in Greenville County, South Carolina, holds historical significance and has played a crucial role in the development and growth of the city of Greenville. Historically, the river powered early gristmills and textile mills, driving the economy and shaping the city's industrial landscape. Over time, efforts to revitalize the Reedy River area have transformed it into a focal point for recreation and urban development, featuring parks, walking trails, and the iconic Liberty Bridge. The river not only reflects the region's industrial past but also serves as a symbol of resilience and community spirit, making it a cherished landmark for residents and visitors alike.
The Reedy River is approximately 65 miles long and spans across Greenville and Laurens Counties in northwestern South Carolina. The Reedy River begins in Travelers Rest, SC, about 10 miles northwest of Greenville, SC at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It flows generally south-southeastwardly through Greenville, Lake Conestee Nature Park, and the Piedmont region into Laurens County. It joins Lake Greenwood in Laurens County, which is formed by a dam on the Saluda River.
