Description
The Historic James King Seneker house near Bristol, Tennessee is shown here on a snowy, winter day. The James King Seneker house is a two-story, hand-fired brick home built just after the Civil War. The house is located on Highway 126 near present-day Bristol, Tennessee.
James King Seneker (1816-1886) was the son of German immigrants, Elias Gottleib Seneker and Catherine Susong, daughter of Revolutionary War soldier, Andrew Susong. During the Civil War, James King Seneker was a Union sympathizer. General Foster and a large Federal Army used the Seneker's home as his headquarters for about a month. Seneker was a Democrat and a Lutheran. His home was on the stage road from Bristol to Knoxville, and they frequently entertained visitors and traveling parsons. His son, John Elias Lafayette Seneker (1848-1916) was a teacher and the first superintendent of schools in Sullivan County, Tennessee.
Today, the James King Seneker home is still a stunning historic site.
