Description
This sunset at the iconic Ravenel Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina was taken on a sweltering evening, with the sun casting a warm glow over the bridge. Armed with my camera and a determination stronger than the Southern humidity, I was ready to conquer both the heat and any gnats which seemed to have their own agenda, forming a tiny air force determined to challenge my sanity. Smiles...
I stood there for a few hours in this same spot, watching the sunset in its different phases in the sky... I fell in love with this final shot as the sun started dipping below the horizon behind the silhouette of the Ravenel Bridge. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed shooting it.
The Arthur J. Ravenel Jr. Bridge, an iconic landmark spanning the Cooper River in Charleston, South Carolina, is a testament to modern engineering and design. It is often referred to by locals as the “Cooper River Bridge”. Completed in 2005, the cable-stayed bridge replaced its aging predecessor and quickly became a symbol of Charleston's resilience and progress. Named after former U.S. Congressman Arthur J. Ravenel Jr., the bridge stretches over 13,000 feet in length and stands as the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. Its elegant twin diamond-shaped towers rise 575 feet above the water, providing a striking silhouette against the Lowcountry skyline. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the bridge plays a crucial role in connecting the city of Charleston with its neighboring communities of Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island, facilitating smoother transportation and enhancing the overall infrastructure of the region. The Arthur J. Ravenel Jr. Bridge not only serves as a vital transportation link but also stands as an architectural marvel and a point of pride for the people of Charleston.
A statement piece, this artwork is perfect for home or office.
