Description
White's Mill is an historic grist mill located near Abingdon in Southwest Virginia. We had such an enjoyable day visiting this beautiful site! The weather was perfect, and after visiting the mill, we stopped at the White’s Mill Mercantile just across the road to pick up a bag of stone-ground cornmeal and enjoy a cold Root Beer and a Moonpie... Truly a trip back in time!
White’s Mill holds great significance in the region's industrial and cultural history. Originally built in 1792, White's Mill is one of the oldest continuously operating gristmills in the United States. It was established by Revolutionary War veteran William White and his son-in-law, William King. The mill served as a crucial center for processing grains, grinding corn, and producing flour for the local community.
The mill itself is a picturesque structure with a white exterior and a waterwheel that stands as a prominent feature. White's Mill has stood the test of time, serving as a testament to the region's industrial heritage. With its scenic location and cultural events, it offers visitors a chance to experience the charm of a bygone era and appreciate the importance of traditional milling practices. The Virginia and National Register of Historic Places listed White’s Mill in 1974, recognizing the importance of its structure and heritage. Today, it is a well-known landmark and a popular tourist attraction in the area.
Truly a statement piece, especially for those who love the rich cultural heritage of Virginia, this artwork is perfect for home or office.
